Aah, February, the month of love…❤️ (and Annette’s snowdrops)Now, you might think the whole Valentine’s Day phenomenon was manufactured solely in order to increase sales of cards, flowers and chocolates – and there’s no doubt it does fuel a retail boom in just about the dullest month of the year. Let’s just think about that most traditional Valentine’s gift, chocolate, for a moment (ooh yes. In fact let’s just eat some and stop all this pointless thinking stuff…) Well, the first heart-shaped box of chocolates was created by Richard Cadbury, the son of Cadbury founder John Cadbury, as a way of increasing sales, in 1861. Today, more than 36 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolates are sold each year. That’s 58 million pounds of chocolate!
