Hello, and welcome to 2025!! And so another New Year storms in at Splash Point (Seaford), all shiny and full of promise! New Year’s Day has had some VERY BIG moments in the past: * President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, thereby freeing all slaves in Confederate-held territory. * The Euro became the official currency in 11 countries on January 1, 1999. * Czechoslovakia peacefully divided into the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic on January 1, 1993. * The Russian Federation was founded on January 1, 1992, following the disintegration of the Soviet Union. * The European Economic Community (EEC) was founded on January 1, 1958. * J Edgar Hoover was born on January 1 1895, and country singer Hank Williams died on the same day in 1953 (they probably didn’t know each other…) Closer to home, and with no need for revolution or uprising, Neal gets the Splash Point Jazz year started by playing at Raffles on the afternoon of the 1st and 2nd and then the 5th at Cooden.
