We love a Bank Holiday at Splash Point Jazz! And this month sees the last BH of 2026 so we’re determined to make the most of it. Although we can’t actually offer you any Splash Point gigs on the 31st August, we will be at the Cooden Beach Hotel on Sunday 30th , when Neal will be playing for Sunday lunch with sax/flute star Andy Panayi.
Over the years there’s been a lot of talk about giving us another Bank Holiday for Trafalgar Day, which falls on October 12th, but it would have to be the nearest Monday and this year it actually IS a Monday. So when better to start than 2026? Well obviously nobody in a position of power is looking at this right now as they seem to have other things on their minds, but left to us it’s a no brainer. If only we’d thought of this last year we could have been lobbying Parliament…
August 26th is Women’s Equality Day, which neatly coincides with singer Lucy Pickering’s gig at SPJC Eastbourne (you see, a bit of planning goes into this…), full details are in the listings. And if you’re up the western end of Eastbourne seafront in the middle of the month it will be hard to miss a red and white striped circus tent 🎪 pitched on Helen Gardens. This is for our friends The Rude Mechanical Theatre Company to perform their play ‘The Wife’ for the last week of their summer tour. But there are two afternoons when they don’t need it, and it becomes a canvas jazz club. Friday 7th and Sunday 9th are the days to wander along there – you’ll be dazzled by the beautiful tent as well as the music. Details in the listings, which follow immediately after some photographic reminders of our July gigs.
Back at the Plough! YES – the Old Plough in Seaford is under new management… the ebullient Matt from the Barley Mow (and The Haunt in Brighton). It’s newly painted and spruced up, and we are back there on the 1st Saturday of each month… starting 1st August 3pm in the garden!
