@splashpointjazz May 2025 News Splash

Ah, the merry month of May…

Are you feeling merry? It’s probably hard to tell because ‘merry’ isn’t a word that we use much these days. Like ‘jolly’, ‘cheery’ and ‘spiffing’ you’d be more likely to come across these sentiments in a Famous Five book than normal life these days.

But there is quite a lot to be merry about in May. For a start, there are two Bank Holidays, though if you’re retired you don’t get the benefit of them any more. So perhaps not so merry about Bank Holidays.
Well, there’s May blossom in the hedgerows and fields, lovely white, frothy sprays of it. But don’t make the mistake of cutting it to bring indoors because it smells like cat’s pee… and that won’t make you feel very merry.

Morris Men? A little bit too merry perhaps?

If you have a May birthday you were probably a very happy baby, and grew up into a happy adult. Not very good news for all the rest of us though is it?
BUT, one thing that is guaranteed to make you merry are the Splash Point listings for May (see below, dear reader…) Hey nonny no! And possibly this Newsletter [That’s two things – Ed.]

Anyway, having visited the Ferrari museum in Maranello, and chanced upon King Charles at the Coliseum in Rome (much to his surprise), April saw a wonderful @splashpointjazz return to JazzAhead in Bremen, Germany – the world’s biggest jazz conference.

As well as non-stop networking, drinks receptions (hic!), seminars and showcases, there was even a UK Jazz Jam Session in the Shakespeare theatre, where Neal sang & played for the closing number 🙂

And… STOP PRESS… We held off sending this so we could bring you the amazing news that as of 1st May, Neal was elected the President of the Seaford Chamber of Commerce! Is this a world first for a professional jazz musician??!
